What kids will do for candy‏--September 28, 2013

Maupay nga kolop tanan!

Well, This week has definitely been an interesting one! We didn't have a ton of lessons this week... only about half as much as usual. Which is kind of a bummer, but we were still really busy with weird irregular things going on. This week we had to drop a lot of investigators, because no one was really progressing... which is sad, but on the bright side, we got like 15 referrals this month! So awesome! And, there has been a baptism in my branch every single week this month! Hooray! Two were from us, and two from the elders. It was super cool because we ALWAYS give them referrals from people we meet and such because our area is the city so we talk to a billion people every day (ok.. that may be slightly exaggerated... slightly...). Anyway, we taught a family of investigators about a month and a half ago, and they had a friend over who sat in on our lessons one time. That friend lives in the Elders' area, so we referred her. And she just got baptized! It was cool! The investigators she's friends with suddenly moved to Manila like a week later. It was weird. They didn't like tell anyone in their neighborhood (or us) that they were moving... But, it's cool that good still came from us teaching them.

We were talking to Jason, and he said, "I love having the priesthood! I love being baptized! I feel like the cleanest person in the world!!!! I wish I could be baptized everyday!!" He's so cool! I thought that was super cute. We are teaching him more about temples today so he can start getting ready for his mission!

This week we had a service project at the post office! Now I know why it takes my letters forever to get to America... But, it was super fun! We sorted mail, carried a billion boxes to the mail car, and cleaned. Here, the government doesn't pay for the post office to have custodians... So they either have to clean it themselves or pay for someone to clean from their own sweldo. Interesting, right?

We met a little gang of 8-11 year olds in one of our areas. My companion gave them some American candy one day, which was funny because it was the fire ball things, and they didn't like it. They were just like, "aaaah! spicy! spicy! this is soooooo spicy! Mean!" But it's ok, we're still friends. We saw them on Saturday and they were like begging us for more candy and chocolate. So we told them that if they came to church the next day, we would give them more candy. We were sitting in like the first row at church, and during the opening hymn guess what happened? All of the sudden there were like 7 kids sitting next to us. It was hilarious! They liked sacrament! They liked singing the songs. Towards the end they were like, "How long is this?"

"3 hours,"

"Oh. Can you give us candy so we can go home? We're bored."

Hahaha They ended up going to one hour of primary before they went home. But they are cool! They walked like 3 miles to come to church. It made me super happy because none of our other investigators came. That was a tender mercy for sure.

We were walking through this park and this crazy lady that's an Iglesia ni Cristo came up to us and started, "fixing us." She went on an on for like a half hour about how wrong our church is. It was insane. She was talking like 3 languages and super super fast. Towards the end she was like, "You are nice girls. I don't want the devil to have you anymore." Then she walked away. That was a weird day.

We had splits this week, which are always fun! I learned a ton! It's nice to work with new people sometimes so you can see different ways to teach. We also had an all day cleaning day. We weren't allowed to leave our apartment until 6 pm. Then, as we were about to leave, Sister purification came downstairs (she had been sick all day) and collapsed. She was unconscious for like a half hour, and had a 106 fever. We were icing her down, and stuck her in front of a fan. We waited for the elders to come over to giver her a blessing. After that, we all took her to the hospital. Pretty sure all my neighbors think I'm a psycho white lady. There were like NO motors, so me and my companion started booking it down the street like frantic maniacs. We came to this house that had a car and the people were outside. They only speak Tagalog, so they didn't understand what I was saying. They got that someone was unconscious.... That's about all. We were just like frantically trying to charade what happened... that was pretty ineffective. hahaha There are like no words to describe that experience. It was pretty funny. Eventually we found a motor and we went to the hospital. Priesthood blessings are great. Her fever went away and she woke up right when we got to the hospital.

I definitely had a lot of interesting things to write about in my journal this week! I learned a lot this week. I learned that people still have their agency, even if you really really really want them to be happy... it's still their choice to accept the gospel or not. It's sad that they won't sometimes.

I love this church! I know it's true! And even though missions are really hard sometimes, and there are times where I feel like I don't do any good, I know that it's important to keep being diligent in the little things that are important. Like: scriptures, praying, church, working on Christ like attributes, etc.

Mission life is great!

Thanks for all of your support and prayers!

Congratulations Brianna! Your baby is super cute!

Love,

Sister Bingham
