Lice, Mice, and a Funeral--August 11, 2013‏

August 11, 2013

Hello everyone,

Well, this week has certainly been interesting!! It was super busy. We had splits, zone training in Catbalogan, I got lice from Catbalogan, went to two funerals, and we had to move one of our baptismal dates.

First, I want to talk about Sister Amora. Her husband passed away last week, so the funeral was on Wed. She is the greatest example of using the plan of salvation in her life. Her husband died on Saturday, and she came to church the next day, full of smiles and laughter. Someone asked her why she was so happy. She said, "It's ok, I'll be with my husband forever, so there is no need to be sad." The funeral was really good. Me and my Companion sang in it, and there were a lot of talks about the plan of salvation. I just super admire Sister Amora, and her faith. I don't know if I would be that ok with life if something like that happened to me. She still has small kids, and has some big financial problems now, but she has so much faith, that her mood and good attitude is unshakable. I like this quote from President Monson, "Our most significant opportunities will be found in times of our great difficulty."

Which is true. It was a great difficulty at first for me to come on a mission, but I have had such amazing opportunities here to do so much good for other people, and also for myself. In the rest of that talk I read, it talked about using our trials as springboards to become better people, not stumbling blocks.

Our investigator, Jonas, had to move his baptismal date... Mostly because he just wasn't ready to get baptized this week. We went on splits, and both of the sisters are Filipinas, anyway, I realized how much I don't actually understand people sometimes... Jonas thought that Joseph Smith was Jesus... oops! But, don't worry, now he knows that Joseph Smith is just a prophet lang. He's great! He has so much genuine love for life, and so much genuine love for God.

We were teaching some new investigators the other day, and I was talking about the priesthood. I was trying to make a point, so I asked one of the members with us If he had a boss. Here's our conversation:

"Brother, do you have a boss for your work?"

"No, sister, I own my own motor," he replied

"Oh, ok! So, you are the owner of your motor. If I wanted to drive your motor without asking, would that be ok?"

"Sure sister! You can drive it whenever you want!." He said eagerly

"Even if I was doing it to make money... If it's YOUR motor and I didn't ask If I could borrow It?"

"Sure sister, do whatever you want!" He said

"Even If I stole your motor????"

"Yeah, if that's what you want to do!"

I turned to a different lady, because it was getting ridiculous. I turned to the investigator who I knew had a boss.

"Sister, If I told you to do something, and your boss told you do to something else, What would you do?" I asked

"Ooooh sister, I don't know! That's a hard choice!" she said

"Even though your boss signs your paychecks and I don't?" I exclaimed.

"Sister I just don't know! I can't drive!"

FAIL for me. hahahaha

One day, we kept getting punted again and again and again. It was 8 pm and we had only taught one lesson that day. Frustrated, we decided to start walking home. On the way, we passed a funeral home. I thought to myself, "ah, what the heck, I bet they want to hear the plan of salvation!" So, we started talking to them and asked if we could share a message about how they can see their loved one again. They basically dragged us to the front of the little mini chapel, and told us to start our message. So, we taught the entire plan of salvation. It was amazing. All of them wanted to hear more about our gospel and we made a ton of return appointments. The newly widowed Sister Queling said, "I feel like this is what the lord wants me to do." And they all happened to live in our area. That was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I'm so thankful that the Lord puts people in my path every day who are ready to have this great blessing in their lives.

Lots of love, Have a great week!

Sister Bingham
